There was a pond full of beautiful koi. The light was reflecting on their scales. I noticed their beautiful colors and patterns. I decided to recreate the beautiful koi that I saw with crystalline glazes. I continue to pursue creating the different colors and scale patterns with crystal glazes today. \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"color: rgb(69, 68, 65);\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAbout the Artist\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan style=\"color: rgb(69, 68, 65);\"\u003eExperiences in and around the water have strongly influenced Alan’s work. When he was five, he caught a bluegill. He thought it was so beautiful that he kept it in his pocket where his mother found it several days later when she did the laundry. The process begins with a series of sketches. Next, the primary forms are created using stoneware, clay, or porcelain. The forms are hollowed out, and the porcelain teeth and eyes are added. The pieces are bisque-fired, and glazes are applied by dipping, spraying, and brushing.
