I wondered why it was full of plastic seaweed and nothing else. On closer observation, I noticed eyes moving around on the seaweed. I realized it was Leafy Sea Dragons camouflaged in the seaweed. At that point, I became fascinated with Leafy Sea Dragons.

About the Artist
Experiences in and around the water have strongly influenced Alan’s work. When he was five, he caught a bluegill. He thought it was so beautiful that he kept it in his pocket, where his mother found it several days later when she did the laundry. The process begins with a series of sketches. Next, the primary forms are created using stoneware, clay, or porcelain. The forms are hollowed out, and the porcelain teeth and eyes are added. The pieces are bisque-fired, and glazes are applied by dipping, spraying, and brushing. Lastly, the pieces are fired a second time using various firing techniques, including Raku, reduction firing, wood firing, and others.

*Teapots that are purchased will remain on display in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition, through September 14, 2026.
After the show closes, teapots will be carefully packed and shipped by September 28, or they may be picked up at the gallery.
