About the Teapot
Each teapot is an individual in that I design them one-at-a-time. My intent with this compact body and high-sprung handle is to offer a surprising visual, while maintaining the feeling of an intimate, well-functioning pot. The spout delivers a delicate arc of tea which references the graphic surface.

About Joan
Chicago-born Joan Ulrich has lived in Alexandria, Virginia, for about twenty years. A background in scientific illustration and surface design in no way prepared her for the U-turn her life would take when she took a summer course in ceramics at Chicago’s Lill Street Studios on a whim.
A move to New York City intensified her clay studio practice, and within a few years, she began participating in national and international exhibits. After six years in NYC, Joan moved to northern Virginia with access to every type of atmospheric kiln, which sparked new strategies for making work.
Joan maintained a studio at Alexandria’s Torpedo Factory for sixteen years until early 2023 and continues to work out of her Workhouse Art Center studio in Lorton, Virginia.

*Teapots that are sold must remain on display in the gallery as part of the exhibit until the show closes on September 10, 2020.  After the show closes, teapots will be carefully packed and shipped by September 26 or available for pick-up at the gallery.
