About Cheryl & Mikio
Cheryl Costantini has had a lifelong interest in pottery, culture, and traditional artistic values. In 1978 she traveled to Japan to study pottery. She learned her craft for the next six years by working in three Japanese potteries. Cheryl’s commitment to tradition rather than trend is seen in her elegant vases and classic teapots.
Mikio Matsumoto worked as a commodities broker in Japan but was always interested in the arts. After moving to California in 1985, he became a potter, and clay was a good medium for expressing his personal ideas. Mikio’s sense of precision is visible in the meticulously carved jars, porcelain sculptures, and carved animals.
Cheryl and Mikio formed Nichibei in 1985. Since then, the husband and wife team has shown their work at exhibitions in California, New York, and Japan. Translated, Nichibei means “Japan and America.”

*Teapots that are sold must remain on display in the gallery as part of the exhibit until the show closes on September 10, 2023.  After the show closes, teapots will be carefully packed and shipped by September 26 or available for pick-up at the gallery.
