He first discovered North Carolina ceramics around 2010 during a pottery tour in Seagrove, NC. Soon after, he began taking foundation classes at local art centers in Raleigh and continued his ceramic studies with established potters.
Inspired by the Asian ceramic culture of his native region and the NC pottery tradition of his adopted home, Wei's works strike a balance between artistry and functionality. He firmly believes that each aspect of a pot - shape and form, decoration, glaze, and function - serves a purpose and contributes equally to the piece as a whole, no more and no less.
Wei completed a nine‑month apprenticeship with Marsha Owen Pottery in 2019 and began working as a studio potter at his home studio in Raleigh.

Artist Statement
My work is inspired by the Asian ceramics culture of my native region and the NC pottery tradition of my adopted home. I try to achieve a balance between artistry and functionality. My goal is to bring one-of-a-kind artisan pottery into people's daily life. Most of my work are wheel thrown with optional alteration. I use various decoration techniques such as carving, slip and brushworks. My functional work use food safe glazes, and are intended for everyday use.

*Teapots that are purchased will remain on display in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition, through September 14, 2026.
After the show closes, teapots will be carefully packed and shipped by September 28, or they may be picked up at the gallery.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0570/8146/2941/files/183-1WeiSun-TeapotinBambooShapepic1_1e577a6f-205b-48ef-904e-1b202de47f4f.jpg?v=1778356987
