Of all the springtime visitors in the garden, the cheerful chickadees are a favorite—always calling out “chick-a-dee-dee-dee” and entertaining with their playful acrobatics. This charming tile design is based on an original block print by artist Yoshiko Yamamoto, who beautifully captured the lively spirit of these tiny birds.
Yamamoto is a self-taught printmaker known for blending Japanese aesthetics with a love of fine craftsmanship. Her collaboration with Motawi Tileworks began when founder Nawal Motawi, a longtime admirer, envisioned Yoshiko’s bold prints transformed into dimensional ceramic tiles. The result? Designs full of movement, grace, and personality.
This handcrafted tile measures approximately 6" x 6" and is about 0.5" thick. A notch on the back makes it easy to hang, though it also looks lovely displayed on an easel or set into a custom installation. Due to the handmade nature of Motawi tiles, slight variations in size are to be expected.
