About the Teapot
For the past five years, I have been consumed with wood firing. At every opportunity, I try to adapt and evolve my work. So when I was invited to this teapot show, I took the opportunity to push the figurative work I love most and make something fun.

About the Artist
My work is steeped in archetypal and personal symbolism. Figures, houses, and boats are just some of the forms I choose to work with. They all have several layers of meaning I find intriguing.
My surfaces reflect my attraction to found objects. The wear on the surfaces and the marks of their journey are the feel I strive to achieve in my own work. To accomplish this, I use a layering technique.
Each piece begins with slabs or is made on the potter’s wheel. The pieces grow by applying coils or additional slabs. When completed, I carve or texture the surface and let it dry. The base colors are applied and fired. I then apply and wipe off a combination of terra sigilattas, slips, stains, and glazes, and fire again. This process is repeated until I achieve the desired effect.
Since receiving my BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1990, I have worked solely in ceramics. Presently, I am represented by numerous galleries, teach at several pottery studios, instruct workshops, sell at art fairs, and have been published in ceramic periodicals. In 2000, my husband and I built my studio right outside our back door. And in 2007, we completed a 40-cu-ft gas-car kiln.
Life is good.

*Teapots that are purchased will remain on display in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition, through September 14, 2026.
