Artist Statement
My work investigates objects in a historical visual culture of pattern and beauty with the aim of projecting ideas into the future. Layering imagery from historical sources like Song Dynasty ceramics, illuminated manuscripts, Japanese woodcuts, and Andalusian lusterware with symbols of clouds, hands, skyscrapers, water waves, and forward-looking strips of text imparts a blended cultural reference to the surface decoration. I try to create a space where conversations about beauty, stewardship, precarity, technology, human culture, and our shared future can happen in the personal and public moments where functional pottery performs.
*Teapots that are purchased will remain on display in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition, through September 14, 2026.
After the show closes, teapots will be carefully packed and shipped by September 28, or they may be picked up at the gallery.
