Artist Inspiration
For me, the handmade objects that I create capture a deep sense of meaning. Sharing these tokens of my experience with others is an expression of community building. Community is built through shared experience and understanding. Finding moments of pause and joy in exploring a hand-crafted object meant for practical use creates a medium for conversation and mental reflection. My hope is that by creating unique objects of beauty, I'll create opportunities for meaningful connection and introspection through the daily activities we have in common.

About the Artist
I revel in the act of making. Learning how to control clay leads to discovery which unfolds a narrative of creativity. This exploration of form and function has instilled a deep appreciation for slow processes, which has led me to pursue atmospheric firing methods. Over time, I’ve found that repetitive iteration delivers creative discovery in both my making and firing cycles. Learning how to capture the softness of clay, how to harness atmosphere to mark my ceramic wares, and the experience of using a well-made functional object feeds my narrative of creativity. If a photograph captures a memory, a Suay Original captures the experience of creativity.

Artist Statement
As a potter, I strive to craft a balance between dynamic surface and inviting form. When I began working in clay, the act of centering the clay and the constant act of striving for symmetry was an exciting challenge. As I’ve become comfortable with the act of centering clay on the wheel, I’ve found a lot of satisfaction and depth in making intentional gestures and modifications to my forms. The enticing forms I strive to create serves as a conduit to heighten one’s perception and sensitivity about what a pot can be. Essentially, I aim to produce well-crafted functional objects that provide lasting experiences and moments of pause in day-to- day life.

*Teapots that are purchased will remain on display in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition, through September 14, 2026.
