About the Teapot
I remember seeing Richard Marquis’ glass teapots early in my career and realizing that the form didn’t need to be functional. An appreciation for the universality of teapots allows me to create my wood “Treapots.” All the traditional teapot elements are present (yes, the curvy spout is hollow). I think of them as anatomically correct, though not functional.
About the Artist
A lifelong Kansan, I balanced careers as an artisan and art educator until 2006, when I left teaching to devote myself full time to creating wood art. I hold formal degrees in Craft Design and Education, but my technical woodworking skills are entirely self taught. I began selling my work at art fairs while still a student in the 1970s and have since traveled to shows coast to coast.
Artist Statement
Inventing processes and creating new forms have been the focus of my creative life for over 35 years. I began my earliest artistic pursuits as a leather smith, which in turn lead to the development of a line of inlaid wood belt buckles and other jewelry. My introduction to unusual hardwoods resulted in a desire to design and produce boxes and other vessel forms.
Two obsessions motivate me: the desire to create objects of distinction, and the ongoing search for visually compelling wood species, whether they are incredibly rare varieties or common local hardwoods that have been overlooked.
*Teapots that are purchased will remain on display in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition, through September 14, 2026.
After the show closes, teapots will be carefully packed and shipped by September 28, or they may be picked up at the gallery.
