Lookdown Fish

$145.00

This Lookdown Fish is a singular ceramic sculpture with bold presence. Measuring about 9" long, 6.75" wide, and 3" deep, it captures the unusual silhouette of the lookdown fish—a silvery, disc‑shaped ocean species known for its flattened body and the way its eyes angle downward as it swims.
Created by artists Alan and Rosemary Bennett, this piece was reduction‑fired in a gas kiln, a process in which oxygen inside the kiln is intentionally limited. This reduced atmosphere encourages the glazes to react in dramatic, unpredictable ways—deepening colors, enhancing metallic tones, and creating the smoky, atmospheric surfaces characteristic of the Bennetts’ work.
Suitable for indoor or outdoor display, this sculpture brings a sense of movement and light to any space.

About Alan & Rosemary Bennett

Alan and Rosemary Bennett draw strong inspiration from their experiences in and around the water. Their creative process begins with a series of sketches, which are then transformed into primary forms using stoneware, clay, or porcelain. These forms are hollowed out, and detailed features like porcelain teeth and eyes are added. Afterward, the pieces are bisque fired, then glazed through dipping, spraying, and brushing techniques. Finally, the works are fired a second time, using methods such as Raku, reduction firing, wood firing, and other specialized techniques.
