Rainbow Trout - Raku Fired

$275.00

This striking Rainbow Trout is a one-of-a-kind sculpture born of fire and smoke. This hand-sculpted beauty measures approximately 13.5" long, 6.5" wide, and 3" deep. Crafted using the ancient Japanese art of raku, each piece is as unique as the fish that inspired it.

Raku is a dramatic firing process in which the pottery is pulled from the kiln at 1850°F, glowing red-hot, and placed into a sealed chamber filled with combustible materials. As flames rise and oxygen falls away, the glazes and clay dance with smoke and fire, creating shimmering metallics, dark crackles, and unpredictable beauty. The result is a sculpture that feels both ancient and alive.

Created by artists Alan and Rosemary Bennett, this trout is meant to be displayed indoors, where its textures and hues can shift with the light—an eternal echo of the wild water from which it came.

About Alan & Rosemary Bennett

Alan and Rosemary Bennett draw strong inspiration from their experiences in and around the water. Their creative process begins with a series of sketches, which are then transformed into primary forms using stoneware, clay, or porcelain. These forms are hollowed out, and detailed features like porcelain teeth and eyes are added. Afterward, the pieces are bisque fired, then glazed through dipping, spraying, and brushing techniques. Finally, the works are fired a second time, using methods such as Raku, reduction firing, wood firing, and other specialized techniques.
