Lookdown Fish

$145.00

This Lookdown Fish carries a striking, sculptural clarity. At roughly 8" long, 6.5" high, and 2.75" deep, it distills the lookdown fish’s unmistakable form—its flattened, shield‑like body and the gentle downward tilt of its gaze that gives the species its name.

Hand‑crafted by Alan and Rosemary Bennett, the piece is fired in a wood kiln, where heat, ash, and flame move unpredictably around the work. In this atmosphere, wood ash settles onto the surface and melts into a natural glaze, creating soft flashes of color, subtle sheen, and the textured, atmospheric surfaces that define the Bennetts’ wood‑fired sculptures. No two firings—and no two pieces—ever emerge the same.

Suitable for indoor or outdoor display, this sculpture brings a sense of movement and light to any space.

About Alan & Rosemary Bennett

Alan and Rosemary Bennett draw strong inspiration from their experiences in and around the water. Their creative process begins with a series of sketches, which are then transformed into primary forms using stoneware, clay, or porcelain. These forms are hollowed out, and detailed features like porcelain teeth and eyes are added. Afterward, the pieces are bisque fired, then glazed through dipping, spraying, and brushing techniques. Finally, the works are fired a second time, using methods such as Raku, reduction firing, wood firing, and other specialized techniques.
