View full detailsSharon Murphy Harrison began creating Happy Raku Fish in 1986, and was joined by Nina Fernstrom-Duong a few years later.
Each fish is made individually by forming a small vase on the wheel and then pinching a funny mouth into place. Later, when the piece can be handled, eyes and fins are added. A large school of fish is fired in a bisque kiln so that glaze may be applied.
Next, a raku firing, which is traditionally Japanese, takes place. Because of the opportunity for variation in Raku pottery, each personally signed ceramic fish ornament is unique.
