Bring the beauty of the sea to your home or garden with this stunning, hand-sculpted blue crab—fired in a traditional wood kiln for a rich, organic finish that’s as unique as the creature itself. Measuring approximately 9" long, 12" wide, and 2.25" deep, this ceramic crab is perfect for display indoors or out, where it adds a touch of coastal charm and artistic elegance.
Each piece is one of a kind, shaped and glazed by hand, then fired using a centuries-old wood kiln process that gives every crab its own character. The dynamic glaze effects come from carefully selected slips—shino, red, Albany, and others—interacting with flame and ash at blazing temperatures of 2300°F (Cone 9).
Created by ceramic artists Alan and Rosemary, this crab is part of a captivating series inspired by deep-sea life, including manta rays, monkfish, octopus, and more. Placement in the kiln is thoughtfully planned, as it dramatically influences the color and texture of each piece, ensuring no two are ever alike.

About Alan & Rosemary Bennett
Alan and Rosemary Bennett draw strong inspiration from their experiences in and around the water. Their creative process begins with a series of sketches, which are then transformed into primary forms using stoneware, clay, or porcelain. These forms are hollowed out, and detailed features like porcelain teeth and eyes are added. Afterward, the pieces are bisque fired, then glazed through dipping, spraying, and brushing techniques. Finally, the works are fired a second time, using methods such as Raku, reduction firing, wood firing, and other specialized techniques.
